While it hasn’t been legal to sell or consume wine in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution, archaeological evidence shows it was one of the earliest wine producing regions with a viniculture tradition stretching back thousands of years. The southern city of Shiraz is said to be the ancestral home of the grape of the same name. Persian food marries very well with wine, especially fuller bodied whites and reds with rounded complexity to match the rich, bold flavours.
