Pinna Pecorino Medoro Aged DOP is a semi-cooked cheese with an intense aroma, flavoursome and a typical product of the Sardinian cheese-making tradition. The unique characteristics of this cheese were officially recognised in 1996, by the award of the “Protected Designation of Origin” (DOP) label, which has helped safeguard production techniques, protecting the original flavour and increasing its presence on the market.
Pecorino Medoro is an extremely versatile and ideal table and cooking cheese. It compliments antipasto, panini, baked pasta dishes, vegetables, and soups. As a dessert it can be shaved onto ice cream or matched with pears, sweet grapes, or dried fruits.
The Pinna story begins with two brothers almost a century ago, in 1919, in the northern Sardinian town of Thiesi. An area of fields and meadows, famous Pecorino cheeses have been made here for thousands of years. The two brothers, Giommaria and Francesco Pinna, wanted to produce Sardinian cheeses and make them famous beyond the island, and they began their work by uniting lots of small producers. They had a vision: they knew there was a large market for these Sardinian products in Italy and around the world. They produced Pecorino Romano, but also worked together to create numerous other high quality traditional Sardinian cheeses.
