Dezzani Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG 2015
I like the subtle fruitiness of this elegant red wine produced from grapes grown in the best vineyards of Asti in Piedmont. The hint of spice marries beautifully with the spice rub on our rolled lamb shoulder and the soft tannins cut through the richness of the lamb fat and creamy skordalia.
Luigi Bosca Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2019
You’d be hard pressed to find a wine that’s sweeter than the lemon syrup in our galaktoboureko, so we’ve opted for a lighter match with Luigi Bosca’s excellent Moscato d’Asti. Its grapeyness is refreshing and the slight fizz handles the richness of the pastry … at just 5% alcohol you can enjoy a second glass too!
Tenuta Sant Anna Pinot Grigio Venezia DOC 2018
The ripe fruit and slightly bitter finish in this excellent Italian pinot grigio marry beautifully with the sweet ripe tomato, creamy Feta and tangy green peppers in our simple Mediterranean Feta, tomato & green pepper bake.
Cà Maiol Fabio Contato Lugana DOC 2015
I love the contrast of this premium Italian wine with our rustic wild weed pie. Fabio Contato is the flagship label of Lombardian winery Cà Maiol and their white wine made from verdicchio (known locally as turbiana) has an aged complexity that marries beautifully with the bitter greens and creamy ricotta.
Tenuta Sant Anna Brut Prosecco DOC
Prosecco is both the name of a grape traditional to north-eastern Italy and the light, creamy sparkling white wine made from it. We’ve added a bottle of one of our favourites, from Tenuta Sant Anna, for you to enjoy as an aperitvo or mix into your Mezzo e Mezzo cocktail.
Mezzo e Mezzo Cocktail Mix (120ml)
Mezzo e Mezzo, a classic cocktail from the 1920s, is back in vogue in Europe and with good reason. Try this bitter blend of Nardini red vermouth and rhubarb-based rabarbaro liqueur (amaro) on ice, with a splash of soda and lemon twist.
Rocca Pinot Grigio delle Venezia DOC 2019
The simplicity of this dry Italian white wine marries well with the subtle flavours of our salt crust baked spatchcock, while the touch of bitterness at the end cuts through the accompanying rich barley pilaf just as well. In fact it’s a very pleasant wine to sip before, during or after any meal.
Enrico Serafino Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG Non-vintage
The baked strawberries served with our chocolate soufflé make this lightly sparkling red dessert wine from Piedmont a perfect match. It’s sweet without being cloying and has a subtle hint of strawberry as well as good acid to balance the chocolate and cut through the richness.
Cà Maiol Sebastian Vino Spumante Brut Non-vintage
Whether you’re at a picnic in the park, a barbecue in the garden or dinner around the table, it’s always great to start with a glass of bubbles. One of our favourites is the dry spumante Sebastian from Cà Maiol, which works beautifully with the olive oil and Mediterranean seasonings in our baked capsicum entrée.
Edoardo Patrone Testa Rüsa Vino Rosato 2018
Picnics and rosé go hand in hand and the dry, full-bodied vino rosato from Edoardo Patrone in the Piedmont Alps is a great match for Janni’s bacon & egg pie. At 13.5% it’s no lightweight, and the testa rüsa name is dialect for red head … all of which might remind us of someone that we know.
White Fences Sauvignon Blanc 2019
We’re including a bottle of the fruity White Fences sauvignon blanc from Mudgee for you to use in the poached saffron pears (menu 4’s suggested dessert) … and so you can enjoy the rest of the bottle with them.
Mezzo e Mezzo Cocktail Mix ( 120ml)
Mezzo e Mezzo, a classic cocktail from the 1920s, is back in vogue in Europe and with good reason. Try this bitter blend of Nardini red vermouth and rhubarb-based rabarbaro liqueur (amaro) on ice, with some soda and a lemon twist
